KRON 4 – A 25-year-old California man has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison for attempting to aid al-Qaida.

A U.S. District Court judge in Los Angeles handed down the punishment Monday to Sinh Vinh Ngo Nguyen, also ordering 10 years of supervision when he is released.

Prosecutors say Nguyen used Facebook to connect with al-Qaida and planned to train its fighters in Pakistan.

Nguyen was arrested last year after several meetings with a man he thought was a recruiter but who was really working for the FBI.

His public defender says Nguyen has a personality disorder.

Classic sting operation for the FBI, have to love their Chris Hansen style in busting Mr. Nguyen here. Any idiot that tries to help out or join Al Queda through Facebook is probably someone you’d like to take in for questioning but this guy looks like an absolute chump. Only way I can see this guy helping the enemy is in how to get a discount at the food court Auntie Anne’s. I really don’t think this guy is bringing anything to the table like bowhunting skills or how to get passed airport security, but on the bright side I would imagine he’s going to have around 13 years of contemplating that crucial mistake of thinking that an extremist that was famous for not using any forms of technology for the better half of a decade might not be on Facebook.

P.S. I would pay money for an Islamic extremist version of To Catch a Predator. Call it To Catch a Terrorist. Have Chris Hansen set up shop in the basement of some temple, then come out from behind the shadows and call the dude out with his chat room conversation. Must See TV right there.
