A’s say no fucking way to 10 more years at O.co Coliseum

“We cannot accept the terms of the offer,” A’s director of public relations Bob Rose said in a statement. “We have tried to negotiate in good faith for the past several months. As the authority knows, it is still our preference not to negotiate this agreement through the media.”

Earlier Tuesday, the Coliseum Authority released a statement heralding the proposal.

“We wanted to send a clear statement to the A’s, the fans, (owner) Lew Wolff and Major League Baseball that we want the A’s at the O.co Coliseum and want to keep baseball in Oakland,” said Nate Miley, an Alameda County supervisor and the authority chairman.

For five years, the A’s have been pushing Major League Baseball for permission to move to San Jose, over the objection of the Giants, who consider the South Bay their territory.

Baseball officials have studied the issue for years but have not issued a ruling. In the meantime, the A’s have agreed to a series of short extensions at the Coliseum.

The terms of the proposal were shared with MLB officials but were not disclosed to the public.

Recently, Wolff told The Chronicle, “We hope to have (a deal) as soon as possible. It’s really up to Oakland now.”

A’s are in really shitty situation if you haven’t heard about it. San Fran won’t give them San Jose (where the should be) because they have a farm team there and don’t wanna give up generations of fans to come away to the A’s. They don’t wanna stay at O.co because well, check out this video from the 3rd base coach just 3 weeks ago:

Yeah that’s not kosher. Suffice to say “Moneyball” was not complete fiction in how that ballpark and that organization is. Problem is that even the A’s second choice, a waterfront stadium in Oakland’s shipping area, isn’t going to happen because the city will not foot the because well, it’s Oakland. Cash strapped and probably the murder capital of California, they haven’t had a confirmed police chief in like 6 years. Truly the job no one wants.

Anyways, civic politics aside, I think it’s time that the A’s share AT&T for a year (or two) while they build somewhere else. The A’s won’t move out of the Bay Area, so if you give A’s fans a taste of them playing in a local and new stadium, maybe Oakland or the Giants will cave and a new stadium. But with only the Jets/Giants doing that in the US, I’m not sure how realistic that is. So until then, enjoy the coliseum bathrooms!
