Vallejo HS drops Apache as nickname….I have its new one
NBC Bay Area – School board members are scheduled to vote on a new mascot for Vallejo High School.
The school adopted the “Apaches” mascot several decades ago. Some Native Americans and their supporters said the mascot was offensive.
Students and alumni defended the Apaches mascot as an honor to the tribe and the Vallejo High spirit.
Back in November, the board unanimously voted to change the mascot, but they did not pick a new one.
The board meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday after a 4 p.m. closed session at the district offices.
Seminoles, Braves, Indians, Apaches, Cherokees, Mohawks, Redskins, the list goes on…Personally, I think any disenfranchised group is going to get pissed when they are the mascot. No getting around that even if you are honoring them. The Fighting Irish have their nickname because a ton of Irish kids go there, it’s a Catholic school and they’re not impoverished anymore. The only Irish hate crimes that exist in this country are when Irish bro’s aren’t allowed to be shithoused all day on March 17th because of “laws.”
That being said, Vallejo is getting a new team name and here is my top suggestion:
Nighthawks. What’s the scariest thing you’re worried about if you’re a field mouse or a terrorist running through the shrubs at night? A fucking Nighthawk. Aka Death from above. Best part, you could feature Stallone as the logo for the team. Genius.
